What Is Your Focus On? by Malea Plaza

Take a moment right now and ask the Holy Spirit to minister to you and give you insight regarding what you are going to read.

Good. Doesn’t it feel different to stop for a moment, and focus on the Lord? Actually in the dictionary another word for ‘focus’ is, ‘attention’. What has your attention today? It’s so easy to get busy with everyday life and put so much of our attention elsewhere. But the psalmist said, “My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare.” (Psalm 25:15) We need to memorize this verse and repeat it when we notice that our eyes are on everything but the Lord.

Yes, we need to focus on work and family and friends; these things are important. But when we don’t give part of our day to Him, we tend to get discouraged, frustrated and stressed by things that have no eternal significance. Giving part of our day to Him involves sitting still and focusing all of our attention to Him. This can include prayer, even if it’s short. God won’t mind, because His Word says that we can “let our words be few.”(Ecc.5:2)

Focus on His goodness, His faithfulness, His love…any of His awesome qualities that come to our mind. As we have learned, ‘focus’ also means ‘attention’. The Hebrew translation for the word ‘attention’ is: ‘anah, which means to eye. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4In this verse, the “unseen” is the Lord, because He is eternal. When we focus our eyes on the Lord and give Him our attention, this keeps us eternally minded and opens the door for His glory to be made a reality in our lives!

Dear Father, open the eyes of our hearts today and help us keep our focus on You. We know that without You, we can do nothing, Lord. (John 15:5) Thank you Lord for helping us, you are ever Faithful.   Let’s keep our focus on Jesus, because honestly, without Him in view, everything else is blurry!
