Victorious King

Victorious King

“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 15:57 NIV)

While Passover (Pesach) is in full swing and Christians are preparing for their “Easter” celebrations tomorrow, I can only wonder how many have stopped to consider what this day represents. Yesterday was “Good Friday” and churches everywhere were holding services remembering the horror of the cross and the mission of the Sacrifice Lamb. Tomorrow the same churches will be celebrating the resurrection of the One who was victorious over death, hell and the grave and who reigns forevermore!

More than two thousand years ago, the precious Lamb of God willingly took upon Himself the weighty burden of the sins of all mankind … past, present and future. He bore the punishment of our sins while nailed to the rugged cross. He endured those six hours of incomprehensible anguish and spoke the words which still echo throughout history: “It is finished!”

The job was done. He had completed His task. The Father had been glorified through His obedience to death, even death on the cross. He took our sins. He bore our sorrow. He submitted to punishment that should have been ours. The stripes he bore bought our healing. The blood spilled cleansed our sin-stained soul. His job on earth was completed. “It is finished!”

The victory our Lord won was far greater than, at times, we fail to consider. So often we look only at what He did for “us” and fail to see how His sacrifice impacted ALL of human history from the very beginning. He opened prison doors. He set captives free. He “led captivity captive” (Ephesians 4:8)! The power exhibited was greater than any nuclear bomb man can possibly conjure up. His power is immeasurably greater than anything this universe can offer in comparison. My goodness … He holds the keys to death and hell (Revelation 1:18)!

When we think our sin nature or our flesh being too powerful for us to reckon with and we have no response other than to obey its evil inclinations, remember … “the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 1:4). Don’t forget the power—the explosive power that burst forth from the grave and led captives out of the heart of the earth—now resides within you. And by that mighty immeasurable power, you have the ability to overcome sin’s inclinations, ungodly temptations, fleshly cravings, and all that offends the holiness and righteousness of the Glorious Savior who conquered death, hell and the grave … for YOU!

Don’t think that sin is your master and you have no option than to obey. You do have a choice. Rely on the power of the Victorious King and walk in His victory. No better way can be found to celebrate the Lord Jesus Christ, not just during this memorial season, but every day throughout the year!

Father, I am in awe of what You have done for me. You sent Your precious Son from His throne in heaven to the earth to become my Victorious King who dwells within me, empowers me, and leads me into victory day after day. Help me remember the immeasurable power to overcome sin when I am tempted and weak, willing to succumb to the inclinations of my sin nature. I long for my life to be a continual celebration of the power wrought in Christ through His death, burial and resurrection. In the name of the Mighty King of kings I pray, amen.
