Under His Wings

I grew up in a Christian home in Searsport, Maine. I am the second youngest of eight children. I felt I would always be under their shadow and I didn’t mind it back then. I was saved when I was only three and tried to be as good as I could growing up. When I was around twelve, I rededicated my life to the Lord and started to see that God could have so much more for my life than the shadow I saw myself under.

I started to think seriously about what I wanted to do with my life, but I couldn’t think of anything.  I decided to just live my life for the Lord and see what He had planned for me. I had a really hard time in High School. I’m not sure I would’ve even made it if God hadn’t used some incredible songs to speak to me and turn my life around. It was then I decided I wanted to help others with the same way I was helped. I started writing music.

I decided I didn’t want to date anyone unless we were serious about relationships and marriage. In my senior year of High School I started dating my best friend Grace Fitzgerald and a year after we graduated we got married on 7/7/07.

I took two years of Theology at Northeastern School of Theology and Missions. NSTM was a small school that taught theology exclusively. I just took theology because I knew God wanted me serving him but I didn’t quite know how.

I finished my first compilation of eight original songs after I finished NSTM and it was then I decided to pursue music exclusively.  I took online classes at Berklee School of Music. In 2009, I got my Specialist Certificate in Theory and Harmony.

2009 was a very hard year because of a lot of different things all happening at once. During that time, I wrote a series of twelve songs about how I dealt with a lot of those issues and how God always delivered us. I decided to record them and spread them to others who might be going through similar problems. Throughout the next year I worked on the recordings and finished the CD in August, 2011.

I took a break from school after I got my Berklee Certificate because of finances and our second child was born limiting our time considerably. Gabriel was born on March 2nd, 2009 and Alana was born on March 10th, 2010.   Instead,  I played for weddings and nursing homes. I worked on the recordings and finished the CD, “All For Him” in August, 2011.

In August of 2010, I started working at Merrimack Valley Baptist Church as a Music Intern. Nathan Stecci, MVBC’s Music Minister, has been working with me ever since then, getting me familiar with the inner workings of music ministry. The Lord led us to Manchester Christian Church where I am playing with their band on the keyboard.  I hope to grow as a musician and Christian while I work with them here. Grace and I hope to eventually get a Worship Leader position.

Micah Blake is our newest author at JournEzine.  He is going to be sharing devotionals that come to him from songs that God put on his heart to write.  His passion is his love for the Lord and music.  I hope you enjoyed getting to know him first before you begin to read his devotionals and listen to his music.  God is using our young adults in mighty ways for His glory!  — Laury
