The Vision Grows

In 2010 we held a meeting at Kings Primary School and cast the vision of feeding the children lunch to the staff and guardians in a general meeting under a tree. Together, we prayed and we sought God’s will in the process. It wasn’t easy for this community, considered to be the poorest in the region, to wait patiently upon God. As the days turned to months, and the months into another year they began to wonder if God was truly listening to their prayers.

In March 2012 the funding needed for the kitchen was finally completed! We could begin the process of building and hoped to be able to feed the children by our mission trip in July. Again, it became a waiting upon God moment as the kitchen would take more time than we had expected to get going. But, by the end of September the kitchen was complete! Now the task of finding cooks and raising enough funds to keep the food coming was ahead of us. We didn’t want to feed the children for a day or even a month if we weren’t going to be able to continue. We began fundraising efforts again and by February of this year, the children were being fed lunch every day!

God has laid on my heart another vision for growth in the realm of feeding, only this is not for physical feeding, but spiritual feeding. The children have what’s called “morning glory” each day before school during which they are taught a Bible story. After coming back from south Sudan in October, it became evident that there is a need for local pastors who can move about the country and disciple. It’s impossible to plant a church without a well-trained, spiritually-equipped leader. Using the local indigenous people to lead the villagers is far more effective than bringing in a Westerner to get the job done.

Kings Primary School sits on a fourteen acre lot. Many of the children who attend and complete to the P.7 level end there. A secondary school is not near the village. Because of the culture, it’s more likely that a boy will find a way to secondary school than a girl. We’d like to change that. Education should be available to everyone. As an added benefit we’d like to see that a discipleship program is placed within the secondary school. Getting the children ready to go out and make disciples within their own communities, country and wherever God would send them.

In an effort to get this vision off the ground and running, we need to begin another fundraising campaign. Our fundraising team is heavily praying over this project as well as other projects still in the works. We have a water project soon to be completed, and the grist mill for the kitchen is also ready to go! Again, it’s always in God’s timing and not ours.

We are so pleased to announce that Verda Reeves has agreed to lead and build our prayer team.  We are praying for those who have supported Heart of God Africa in past projects, and those who have not yet had the opportunity to get involved. God’s work involves all of us, hand-in-hand and heart-to-heart, to get the tasks completed. If you would like to join the prayer team, please contact Verda directly at

Through prayer, we will see a transformation in the community as jobs are provided while the children’s future is impacted along with those who will be trained to reach others with the Gospel.

Asante Sana! (Thank You)
