The Treasure in Junk

This little devotional is dedicated to Patty Smith McCarthy who inspired me to write it. Do you carry emotional garbage or junk in your life? If you’ve ever gone through a crisis of some type in your life, chances are you carry it. Sometimes we can go for years feeling free from it. Suddenly, at a moments notice something or someone can trigger it to come hurling back at us, and like torrential rain, it washes all over us. For some, it’s never gone. It’s tucked away and carried around daily. Oh, you on the outside may not see it, but we can feel it. It affects who we are, how we act or react, and can give us a feeling of unworthiness. After all, isn’t that what junk is? Worthless items that are discarded, thrown out or tossed away?  Who would ever want to live with the junk we carry? Somehow we convince ourselves we must deserve it or that we’ve earned it. Why else would we have it. Our lives can be literally based on our junk and how much of it we carry with us each day. Sound familiar? Ever hear the saying, “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure”? Would you like to get rid of your junk and live a life feeling like treasure? Jesus Christ is in the business of turning our junk into treasure. He seeks us out, and says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest”.

Loved one, give your junk to Jesus Christ, and let him turn it into treasure! When you find freedom in Christ you become a new creation. Your junk is turned into treasure. It’s not discarded, it’s reused to inspire someone else to change their junk into treasure! It’s called a testimony! How many times have you gone to yard sales and found what looked like trash, actually pay for it, take it home, fix it up, and turn it into treasure. God’s yard sale is free and he’s taking donations! Come let Christ find True treasure in your junk.

“Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine.” Exodus 19:5
