Small Acts of Kindness and Love

“They are wet with the mountain rains and hug the rock for want of a shelter.”- Job 24:8

We desire to achieve much more from life and move on with our life at a fast forward pace on every day basis. At times, we become so involved with ourselves that we almost overlook plights of people residing on the road sides, who remain homeless. According to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, there is an estimated 100 million homeless people worldwide (Source: United Nations Commission on Human Rights, 2005). This figure gives a picture of unfortunate and vulnerable people who do not have shade over their head.

Whenever we think to help the homeless, most of the times we think that something big and huge has to be done… like giving some donations and so on. The donations needed are huge and unrealistic  most of the time and some give up the idea of helping. But, I believe that small acts of kindness in our capability will become a light of hope for the people in need.

Suppose, we have bought apples for our children and on our way to home, we come across a shelter and food deprived person sitting on the foot paths. Then, what do we do? Ignore him and hurry right away for home. No!  Now we can do one more thing. Stop on the foot path for a minute and just share few apples of your lot. Believe me, you will feel peace and be calm knowing that you have been able to help someone somehow.  Offer a prayer and a handshake along with your small provision also.  Be available to listen, should the soul placed before you wish to share a thought with you.

The Bible also says that “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2

The size of kindness is not important, but the act itself is more important. These small acts of kindness and love will help to walk in path shown by Him as “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8.
