“For lo the winter is past, the rain is over and gone, 12. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”   Solomon 2:11,12

I don’t know what your thoughts are as you read these verses but I’d like to share mine.  The Bible says for everything there is a season.  We all have times of trial, those times in the wilderness when we feel so all alone.  While those periods of learning are sometimes necessary for all of us we cannot remain in the wilderness.  There comes a time when that must end.  We must get up, be refreshed and renewed then produce some fruit from our labor.  We do not labor in vain!

I personally have just come through one of the most difficult times in my Christian walk.  Honestly I was full of the age old questions, Why God Why? When God When? And How God How?  Two weeks ago I walked out the back door of my office building and God begin teaching me a very valuable lesson.  This was totally unexpected and completely out of the ordinary for me.  I am not a lover of nature or animals and I am not an outdoors kind of woman.  This day I was distracted by a little bird of all things.  The bird was singing its heart out and it had my full attention.

I was sitting at a picnic table with four other women who apparently noticed my mind was somewhere else.  One of them finally got my attention and asked me where my mind was.  I did not even think about it before I spoke out loud.  I told those women I was listening to the bird.  They seemed surprised and they looked at me as if I had lost my mind when I went on to tell them that bird was praising the Lord.  I just knew it was.  In its own little way the bird was singing praises to the ONE TRUE GOD who created it.

Something stirred in my spirit.  I begin to think God what is wrong with your people?  We are the one creature, created in the likeness and image of God and He gave us a voice, why don’t we praise like the little birds?  You know we are also the creatures with a voice others can understand.  I couldn’t understand the language of the bird but if I were to open my mouth and praise the Lord those around me could understand and know what I was saying.  People would know I was giving honor and glory to God Almighty.  Praise can and should be contagious.  We all have something to praise God for.  We shouldn’t forget our purpose in this life, to be a light in a dark world.  How soon we forget…

This happened to me on a Friday morning and the following Monday morning the Lord woke me up at 5:30AM.  I’ll be honest I still had an hour to sleep and that’s what I wanted to do.  I felt compelled to talk to the Lord.  I surrendered only to talking to Him while lying in bed at first.  I looked at the clock thinking time has passed and I’d been talking a while but I was wrong only a few minutes had gone by.  Then I heard
the birds singing outside.  The sound of their voices seemed to fill the whole house.  At that moment I knew what the Holy Spirit of God was speaking to my heart.  Get out of bed willingly and praise the Lord!  He is worthy of all our praise and He’s the only one who deserves it.  God didn’t have to tug on the little bird’s heart to get up and praise Him.

The bird was created to praise His name and just by nature it did so.  What is your nature?  Is your nature to wallow in the circumstances or situations you face in this life or is it your nature to rise up and praise Almighty God?

The winter is past, the rain is over and gone, the flowers appear, new life is springing up!  The time of the singing of birds is come; let us join them in singing praises to our Lord.  It’s time to get up and move forward.  It’s time for fruit to grow in our lives.  It’s time we stand up, step out and be accounted for.  God is calling His people to a higher standard of holiness.

Heavenly Father, I confess that I have been guilty of neglecting you.  I haven’t always used my voice to sing your praises.  I have at times lingered in the winter or the rain for too long.  Lord I knew there was shelter from the storm but I was caught up in my emotions and not my Savior.  Lord help me to keep things in perspective and have the proper balance in my life that I won’t linger in any one place too long.  Teach me to walk with you, to praise you willingly and to always place you first in my life.  Amen.
