August/September 2014

Winter is finally coming in force, and very soon 2014 will be a thing of the past. I can’t believe that the holidays are upon us, and now that flights are booked, I should be spending this Thanksgiving with our churches in India.

This trip, which was originally scheduled to begin on November 3, had to be delayed due to many visa issues with the team including my own, and we have been in a holding pattern until it can all be worked out. Now everything is looking up, and as of now, we will be on our way soon.

Looking back on October, it has been a month of strategizing and planning for the future, and I’d like to take this newsletter to let you know about two new things I have been working on for the next year.

2015 HG Evangelism Summer Internship

My passion is not only for doing evangelistic ministry personally, but also in leading our Heart of God mission teams and showing how anyone can be involved in sharing the Gospel of Christ with others. With 2014’s summer mission trip to Uganda being by many people’s accounts, “the best so far,” I feel very strongly that this forward momentum needs to continue on. As such I am currently planning a 10-week summer internship for 2015. Running from mid-June to late-August, I will be taking a small group of mission interns to Uganda and South Sudan, all of whom will be heavily involved in outreach and evangelism as well as in ministry cooperation with our partner churches there. The internship will be a hands-on training which will include personal development, developing “core values” for Kingdom-minded living, all while serving in a wide range of ministry activities. There will be great opportunity for teaching, preaching, open-air outreaches, door-to-door evangelism, prayer ministry for the sick in village hospitals, prison ministry in rural Sudan, and participation in the Youth Ablaze conference.

If you have ever wanted to spend a summer serving the body of Christ and sharing the gospel with the lost, this is a great opportunity to invest in both yourself and the Kingdom of God. You don’t want to miss out.

The cost for this internship is $7000 per person which covers all travel, housing, food, and ministry expenses. (Any personal expenses must be taken care of by the participant.) Applications will require a pastoral recommendation as well as three personal references. All applications will be prayerfully considered on a first-come basis. Interns must be at least 18 years old; I will be accepting up to 8 interns for this summer program. For more information, please contact me directly.

Heart of God Leadership Network

This year I have spent a lot of time talking to pastors and other ministry leaders around the world, hosting leadership conferences and speaking at as many events as I could fit in, and the responses are always the same. “We love it when you come, but it isn’t enough!” “Next year can we add more days to this conference?” “Can you bring more people like this to teach us?” “We need more of these leadership lessons.”

I have received many requests to personally mentor young pastors and church planters, as well as other leaders, including one particular leader who is the academic facilitator at one of the largest Christian High Schools in East Africa. While I do not have the time to accept every one of these requests, I have been praying specifically about what I can do; I think the answer is what I am calling the Heart of God Leadership Network.

Right now the website and infrastructure is being developed. Beginning in January of next year, we will be providing leadership principles for life and service in the Kingdom of God to anyone who signs up. I already have a few dozen emails from interested pastors and leaders in Uganda to go on the list, and I hope to add a many more during my time in India this month.

The basic structure is this: Twice each month those who join the network will receive an easily applicable leadership  principle in their inbox that they can use themselves and share with others. There will be a connected Facebook group where our leaders from around the world can discuss each topic. The website itself will be the place to catch up on past principles that were missed, or sign up your friends.

While I know that technology can’t yet reach everyone, I feel very strongly that this is a step in the right direction, giving me the ability to impart helpful insights to many I might otherwise never meet with one-on-one while giving Heart of God’s leadership a more active “presence” in the lives of our extended network of leaders and partners worldwide.

I am currently writing the articles for the first quarter of 2015, and while the site is registered but not set up, you can watch for it to go live in the next couple of weeks at

  • Pray for our India team as we make final preparations to travel and serve our network of Pastors and churches there.
  • Pray for Heart of God’s leadership as we enter into the season of year-end fundraising (and keep an eye out for our #GivingTuesday campaign).
  • Pray for me as I continue to prepare next summer’s internship.
  • Pray for the launch of the HG Leadership Network and all of the global leaders it may reach.

“If there is no passionate love for Christ at the center of everything, we will only jingle and jangle our way across the world, merely making a noise as we go”
