Press On Toward the Prize

philippians3.141During the times of the apostles, being a Christian was not easy. Our brothers and sisters were considered enemy number one in the Roman Empire. However, the message they preached spread rapidly even amidst horrific persecution. Though they could have kept quiet about Jesus’ resurrection and saved their own lives, they couldn’t deny the truth. A man rose from the dead who claimed to save people from their sins! He claimed to be Son of the Most High; the very image of the Father (Hebrews 1:3). We as Christians will also experience times of persecution. While it may not be as drastic as what the apostles and endured, it can still inspire discouragement. As we press on in the faith, let’s pray for and encourage one another. Let’s also pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ in nations hostile to the gospel. If possible, financially support ministries that address the concerns of the persecuted church. The Scriptures say we should “remember those that are in bonds as bound with them and those who suffer adversity as being yourselves also in the body (Hebrews 13:3). What affects one member affects all, so let’s continue to pray and support our brothers and sisters from every corner of the earth. They need our support and we need theirs; we have a prize to claim!

Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven

(Matthew 5:10).
