The Sacrificial Lamb

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV)

Easter is a time to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. John 3:16 was the only reason for Jesus coming to earth. Without purpose, He had no reason to leave His heavenly home. His main objective for living was to die, offering Himself as a sacrificial lamb on our behalf, so in turn we might live.

Matthew 20:28 states that Jesus came to give His life as a ransom for many; Luke 19:10 tells us He came to seek and save the lost. His purpose was to fulfill the Father’s plan for redemption, and He was obedient to the Father, even unto death.

Jesus is the Easter Lamb whose blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. It is liquid love poured forth as from an alabaster jar. Once poured, it cannot be contained. It runs its course, touching all in its path, searching out the deepest crevices, softening the hardest heart with its sweet fragrance, like the healing balm of Gilead. Its perfumed essence prepares us for our own death in Him.

It is God’s love that conquers all, heals all, saves all, for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son whose liquid love took the form of blood drops, which poured forth from the wounds of the Lamb, the one who was Love Himself. Calvary is proof of God’s divine love, everlasting and totally complete – an acceptable sacrifice offered in exchange for our sins.
