No Condemnation

romans8-1Isn’t it great that those of us who have believed the gospel and have been sealed by the Father’s Holy Spirit are no longer children of wrath, but have been adopted into God’s family. The Scriptures say, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). While Jesus’ blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness, there might be friends, family, and coworkers who don’t understand the change that has occurred in our lives. Despite being justified by Jesus’ work on the cross, they choose to focus on our failures, mistakes, and sins, no matter what fruit we are producing. They might try to heap guilt and shame upon us for the things we’ve done in the past. They may even mock our faith and our desire to live righteously. No matter what they say or do, we have a promise from our God who cannot lie that He has separated our sins from us as far as the east is from the west and will remember them no more (Psalm 103:12, Hebrews 8:12). Let’s take comfort in the fact that the Father sees us as we truly are, clothed in Jesus’ righteousness. He knows our innermost thoughts and motives. The Father has called us, The Son has saved us by His precious blood, and the Holy Spirit is sanctifying us.

Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us (Romans 8:34).
