Nativity
by Linda Wright

The prophets foretold His holy birth…
A virgin shall conceive.
A husband’s heart was broken yet,
Found faith enough to believe…

That Mary was pure and innocent,
That the Babe was God’s own Son
Who came to save man from his sin…
The Messiah, the Promised One!

An angel choir, a wondrous star,
Shepherds from Bethlehem,
Wise men traveling from afar
With gifts to honor Him.

Yes, glory surrounded that holy night
When Jesus Christ was born,
But shadows fell upon the Light…
A cross and a crown of thorns.

For this Holy Child was born to die
On a hill called Calvary
To offer life to you and I…
O blessed Nativity!

O Christ-child born on Christmas Day,
The ransom for man’s fall,
Amidst the gaudy, loud display…
Still the greatest gift of all!
