March 6: Moonshine

March 7_moonB“Who is she that looketh forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners?”  (Song 6:10)

Just looking at one portion of this verse, “fair as the moon”, it is noteworthy that the moon is called fair, pointing us to the Body of Christ … the Church. She is fair as the moon, reflecting the light of the Son.

Just as the moon has no light in and of itself, it reflects the sun, putting off a glow that provides light in the midst of darkness; neither does the Body of Christ have any light in and of itself. Any light that proceeds from the Body is but a mere reflection of One much brighter. And even so, the moon could never shine bright unless it had spent time in the presence of the sun.

As Christians, we cannot hope to shine forth the reflection of His glory if we haven’t taken the time to spend time with Him … in His presence … ourselves.  There is a place found at His feet where we are taught of Him, where we humble ourselves in adoration and worship, and where He shines His love on us as we linger in His presence.  There’s no place like the presence of the Lord.

Spend time with the Father today … bask in His light so you may carry it as a torch to dispel the darkness in this world.

Father, as I daily sit at Your feet, in the glory of Your presence, shine upon me, shine through me, and shine in me so I may be the bearer of Your pure light to this world of utter darkness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  (Matthew 5:16)
