“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “ (1 Peter 2:21)
One time a king’s favorite horse got lost. The king offered a great reward for anyone who would find it. Many wise men tried and failed, but one of his servants found it and returned it back.
The king asked “How did you find it?”
The servant replied, “I thought, if I were a horse, where would I go? Putting myself in his place, I soon found him!”
Compassion is simply putting yourself in somebody else’s place.
Compassion is hearing what they are not saying.
Compassion is to understand the fact that their anger is only masking their fear.
Compassion is to understand that they are crying out for help in the only way they know how.
Before Peter denied the Lord, Jesus said to him “…When thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”(Lk.22:32)
Every time you see people with unnatural fear in their eyes, low self-esteem, or an apologetic posture, they are silently crying “Carest thou not that we perish?” (Mk. 4:38)
When grace touches your life, you will always look back for others.
We can build very beautiful Churches on every corner of the town.  But if people cannot find compassion among us, they will pass through unchanged by our programmes, our politics and our pronouncements.
Our calling as ministers of the gospel is to help God’s people. We have been called to be used by God to reach various needs of His people.
God always looks for a person who is ready to suffer for the rest of the people. God’s people suffer many times by way of hunger, humiliation, abuse, mockery etc.  But, in all these, God has always protected those who always wanted to help someone else.
When your heart is after God’s heart, you will love God’s people the way God loves them without the question of tribe, colour, race nationality or anything because “…nothing can separate us from the love of  God…” (Rom.8:35,37).
