Legacy of Prayer
By Rita Garcia

Dedicated to my Mother
Betty M. Ruth 1921-1991

Mother’s Day is drawing near. It is difficult to write this as my eyes fill to overflowing. You were a wonderful mom. In the face of great adversity you made me feel loved, and taught me of Jesus, the greatest love of all. You left me the legacy of prayer.

I know heaven is an even better place since you are there. I can just imagine the angels placing their heads on your shoulder when they need a little rest.

We were left with an empty spot on earth, for you were a soft place to fall for so many of us. I recall your words of wisdom, and only have to think of you to feel the warmth of your love.

Yes, we shall meet again on heavens shores, walk the streets of gold and talk of Jesus and His love. I miss you Mom and I will hold you in my heart until we meet again.

Legacy of Prayer

She did not leave me riches untold.
She did not leave me silver or gold.
What she left me is more precious by far
My mother left me the legacy of prayer.

When I was a child, many were the times; I could hear my mother praying late into the night for someone in need. When her friends or family needed help, or had a problem and needed someone to listen, they called my mom. They knew not only would she listen, she would pray for them as well.

After I grew up, often, I was the one calling my mom. She did not hesitate telling me what I needed to hear, even when I didn’t want to listen. In my heart I knew she was right and I also felt the warm glow of her love, secure in the knowledge I was the one she was praying for late that night.

At her funeral, as people came by to express their sorrow, I heard the same comment over and over again, “who will pray for me now?” What greater legacy could a mother leave?

I still talk to Mom when I’m feeling sad or something good is happening in my life, I believe she is my own special angel in heaven, someone to watch over me.

Mom, I love you!
