psalm75.1But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you (Psalm 5:11).

The word “God” is used over 4,000 times in the KJV,  Old and New Testaments alike. However, God is not God’s name.  In the Bible, particularly, the Old Testament God often gives a self-designation when He has revealed Himself in mighty and awesome way. Moses experienced God’s presence in the burning bush on Mount Horeb. When Moses asked God His name, He declared, “I AM who I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you” (Exodus 3:14). God commissioned Moses to free the Israelites from four hundred years of slavery and gather them as a people to Himself. God rescued His people and He did so with a magnificent display of power. God sent 10 plagues on Egypt that included, plagues of frogs, flies, locusts, and turning the Nile River into blood (Exodus 7-12).  He also parted the Red Sea, so that the Israelites could escape from the Egyptians pursuing them (Exodus 14:21). From this awe-inspiring acts the people knew God in a new way, as a savior, protector, and provider, as He gave them manna t eat in the wilderness.

There’s so many other wonderful name God reveals Himself by and they all confirmed through His actions. Some of self-designations of God are, Yahweh-Yireh which means the Lord will provide; Yahweh-Nissi, the Lord if my banner; and Yahwah-Tsidkenu, the Lord is our righteousness. If you’re not familiar with God’s various names and titles, do some research today as knowing them will strengthen your faith and help you understand our wonderful and mighty God.
