JournEzine’s Eleventh Annual Christmas Story Contest: King

kingtitle1

It’s that time of the year again and we hope you’re as excited as we are as we begin JournEzine’s Eleventh Annual Christmas Story Competition!  This contest is a meaningful and fun way for authors of all ages, from all walks of life, and at all levels of accomplishment to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Join in the celebration by participating; there will prizes and exposure for the winners as well as a PDF file of all entries made available for download at the conclusion of the competition.

We are currently accepting entries. All submissions must be received by midnight December 16th, 2016. Barring any unforeseen delays, winners will be announced on December 22nd, 2016. Please feel free to submit as many entires as you like. Have fun but … please follow the rules!

The theme this year is simply “KING“. While you are encouraged to be as creative as you like with your entry, every submission will be rated by assigning a numerical value between 1 and 5 for each of the criteria outlined below. Neither the author’s name nor any other identifying information is revealed to the judges; they rate each entry based on its own merit alone.

As you write, please keep in mind the following criteria which will be the basis for judging each entry:

  • How well did the entry fit the topic?
  • How well-crafted was the entry?
  • How creative was the entry?
  • How well did the entry begin?
  • Did the entry come to a satisfying conclusion?
  • How well did the entry work within its own genre (i.e. poetry, fiction, devotion, etc.)?
  • How well did the entry connect with or involve the reader?

A panel of independent judges will read each entry and, using a pre-programmed tally sheet, submit their opinions by our deadline. All tally sheets will then be combined to determine the final winners.  The judges will not have contact with the other judges, so all entries will be rated separately by each individual judge without outside influence.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 entries and honorable mentions awarded to the top 5 runner-ups. Please watch JournEzine for prize details.

Your winning story should be written and submitted prior to midnight (EST) December 16th.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, December 22, 2016.

While “KING” is the theme for this year’s competition, we are excited to see how your entry will convey the most important message sent to mankind through the advent of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Of course, the birth of Jesus Christ was according to God’s divine plan – not just to give us another holiday to celebrate, but because He loved mankind (His creation) so much that He devised a plan of redemption for fallen man. He loves us that much! Let’s give God the glory for His fulfilled plan in the birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension of the only begotten Son of God this Christmas. Write as if you desire to inspire the readers with the true meaning of Christmas, unveiling the mystery of God’s plan.
