Jesus Is the Reason For the Season
by Jeanice McDade, Senior Editor

Jesus is the reason for the season”, a common phrase heard and seen around this time of the year. Oh how I love that phrase! Yet, even as it refers to Christmas, it reminds me that Jesus is the reason… PERIOD!! I am reminded of Jesus being the Word (the eternal), of Jesus being before the foundations of the world, of Jesus being fully God and fully man, that all things are made in Him and without Him, there is nothing… and of the blessed assurance of our salvation (thank You, Lord!), Jesus Christ… the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
How comforting it is to know that Jesus, the lover of our soul, always was and always will be. We have security in knowing that there are no surprises, no “loop holes”, no changes down the road. Our challenge, our privilege is to love Him, resulting in our purification and molding into a vessel that He can use to bring others to the knowledge of His love.
Jesus, the Word… John 1:1-2 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God”.    Isaiah 40:8 “Surely the people are grass, the grass withers, the flowers fade, but the Word of our God stands forever”. 1 Peter 1:23 “…having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible through the Word of God which lives and abides forever”,
Jesus, before the foundations of the earth… John 17:5 “And now, O Father, glorify me with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was”
Jesus was fully God and fully man. God gave His son and Jesus CHOSE to come. How tender is the love of our Lord, how mighty is the love of our Father. We think of the gift of our messiah (especially) during this season but let us also remember that Jesus chose to come. Jesus chose to leave heaven and come to earth, living within the confines of flesh, so that He could be our all in all. This done because of His great love, not because of anything we did or deserve to compel Him to do so.
“ Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross”. Philippians 2:5-8
The reason. I am reminded of a song that my children sometimes sing about Jesus being in everything, even in our Jesus is the Reason for the Seasonvery movements. This Christ Child, the reason for all that we are… “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”. John 1:3-5
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist”. Colossians 1: 16-17
We thank the Lord often for being our way of salvation, for reconciliation to God, for eternal opportunity to praise Him. This is one of the things that I love dearly in His Word, it is so simple… so cut and dry, there is NO way to these things except through Him… THE WAY.
Jesus, the Way…”Jesus said to him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”. John 14:6
Yes, Jesus died for us because He didn’t want to live without us. Today we choose! We choose to believe, to allow His Word to live in our hearts, and to follow Him.
“Lord, You set our path before us. We thank You, Father, for our messiah. We thank You, Lord that you are our reason, not just for the season, but for everything that we are and will be. We thank You, Lord, for You are the Word, that You are eternal and Your love will abide in us forever. Lord, take our lives and mold us into something beautiful, for Your glory. We think of gifts this season, we thank You for Your gift of life, of salvation, and we ask that we be a blessing one to another as You fill us fuller of Your love and purpose. Lord, let us be a light that shines in the darkness. In Jesus name!, amen”
Oh Lord, you’re beautiful
Your face is all I see
For when Your eyes are on this child
Your grace abounds in me
Oh Lord, please light the fire
That once burned bright and clean
Replace the lamp of my first love
That burns with holy fear
(I want to take Your Word and shine it all around
But first help me just to live it, Lord
And when I’m doing well, help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to You) **
