It Is God’s Nature

“It is God’s nature to keep His promises.”

For all the promises of God in him are yes, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Cor 1:20). Unchangeable. Immutable. Absolute. Consistent. Perfect. Complete. Confirmed fulfillment in Christ, confirmed alike to Jew and Gentile. It is indeed God’s nature to keep His promises!

God made promises to His people that were intended to be used. He longs for us to bring them to His remembrance saying, “Lord, do as you have said!” God is glorified as we plead His promises; His Word is exalted and His love for His people confirmed over and over again. He gave us many promises as a channel of blessing, provision, and miracles in the lives of those He loves.

When one who is full of faith does not grasp a promise and present it to God, it dishonors Him. It is like a parent giving a priceless gift to a child and that child never using it or acknowledging it; the parent is dishonored. Yet, when a child of God grasps a promise and takes it to the throne of grace and cries, “Lord, you have said … you made this promise!” then his desire shall be granted.

The promises of God weren’t made to lay dormant between the covers of a book. They are living and powerful and ready to be enacted on our behalf. Spurgeon says:

Draw the word out of its scabbard, and use it with holy violence. Think not that God will be troubled by your importunity reminding him of his promises. He loves to hear the loud outcries of needy souls. It is his delight to bestow favors. He is more ready to hear than you are to ask.

It is indeed God’s nature to keep His promises. Stop what you’re doing and go to the throne at once and say, “Do as you have said.” Be bold while remembering that “… all the promises of God in him are yes, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Cor 1:20). Glorify God by reminding Him of His promise.
