Israel in Covenant with God

As of today, Israel is surrounded by every one of her enemies named in the 83rd Psalm. This should at least have our attention. Our hearts should be burning with the expectation that God is about to stand up for His people and show the power of His protective might on their behalf. If fulfilled prophecies on behalf of Israel do not inspire you, I fear nothing else will.

What most Christians fail to understand is, the covenants God made with Israel were initiated by Him, and as such, cannot be broken, even if Jews fail to live up to the conditions God set forth: “Yet for all that, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, nor shall I abhor them, to utterly destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God. But for their sake I will remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God: I am the LORD” (Lev. 26:44-45).

The Abrahamic covenant (Gen. 15:18), the Caananitic Covenant (Num. 33:51–34:15) and the Davidic Covenant (2 Sam. 7:12-16; Ps. 89:3-4, 34-37) were given as assurances to Israel that the land would be allotted to her forever, and that the line of David would have a permanent inheritance and right to the throne in Jerusalem. These verses prove Israel’s God-given right to settle on her own land. It is a stinging rebuke to her enemies who falsely insist the land is theirs, and to those Jews who sympathize with Arabs and negotiate to give up land for peace…a peace that has never once transpired after such treaties have been made.

The fact that God has left a permanent record of His “contracts” with Israel, and the fact that He has lived up to His promises so far, should assure us that the rest of the prophecies concerning Israel will come to pass. With all that is transpiring in the Middle East, we should take heart and look up…for our redemption draws near!
