He Covers Us

I was sharing today with a precious young friend about the book of Ruth. I love that book. About 33 years ago I got “quarantined” in Peshawar, Pakistan. I was still single at the time. Our team was going into the villages to hold some meetings. I came down with the mumps, I was 25. I was also a danger to the men in our team (or any man!) because of the potential damage it could do to young men if they got them.

So I was getting an unsolicited R&R! For some reason the book of Ruth was on my heart. So I read it…and reread it and continued to for several days. I felt like there was something there for me…there was. It was Jesus in the book of Ruth. So often we focus on Naomi or Ruth as the main character, but finally one day as I was reading, I saw Boaz as a type of Christ. I don’t have that Bible any more but the margins were filled with notes of discovery.

Boaz is such a rich character in this book, but many times we over look him. I would like to share just one example:  it takes place on the threshing floor. It is midnight and Boaz has fallen asleep. Ruth has put herself on the line (exposed herself in a way) by coming to the threshing floor and finding Boaz. When her presence wakes him, he covers her with his skirt. Isn’t that beautiful. He didn’t rebuke her or take advantage…he covered her until she left just before being recognized. That is what Jesus does with our shame and sin…HE covers us.♥

Linda Kropp got saved at 14.  ” I always say that I didn’t get into a lot of trouble…because my mom wouldn’t let me!”  Linda was a was a missionary from 1973-1985 in the States, Europe and Asia, 9 of those in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Her husband was in the same mission, “Christ is the Answer” and they were married in Sri Lanka in 1980.

They have one daughter, Elisabeth, a son-in-law and a 4 yr. old granddaughter and another granddaughter due in July.  They attend College Avenue Baptist Church in Bloomington where they both are Sunday School teachers.  In September of 2009, Linda was praying about a way to help missions and she felt the Lord put on her heart to open a thrift store in Clinton, IL and give 100 % of the profits to missions, crisis pregnancy centers and food pantries. So she did.  They also have a weekly Bible study; a mentoring program for homeschooled and public school students. They also have had numerous people commit their lives to Christ since they opened. It has become a ministry…and that is just the ones who have gotten saved. Many people come in daily with prayer needs and they pray for them.  They work with DOVE (a domestic violence program), the IDHS in Lincoln, and the Red Cross Disaster Relief.
