Fullness of the Godhead

“And of his fullness have all we received.”

In Christ dwells all the “fullness of the Godhead” (Col. 1:19). The word “fullness” caused me to pause this morning to consider the words of John 1:16 … “And of his fulness have all we received.

Spurgeon’s devotion for this morning identified some fullnesses of which we are undeserving, and often unaware, recipients through Christ.

  • There is a fullness of atonement in His blood.
  • There is a fullness of justifying righteousness in His life.
  • A fullness of victory in His death.
  • There is a fullness of power realized in His resurrection from the dead.
  • There is a fullness of triumph in His ascension.
  • There is a fullness of blessings of every sort and shape.
  • A fullness of grace to perfect.
  • A fullness of comfort in affliction.
  • A fullness of guidance in prosperity.
  • A fullness of every divine attribute … of wisdom, power, love.

“It pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.”

Oh, how often we sell short the power of Christ at work in our lives by our limited understanding of His fullness that dwells within us! Fullness: the quality or state of being full, total, complete. In Him, there is NOTHING lacking.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:3)

Fullness of all the attributes of Christ … within us who believe. Lord, help us live a life reflecting such an immeasurable blessing, that Your glory might be seen as we learn to walk in the fullness of the glory of Christ, amen!
