Fix Me, Lord!

When the ick of life comes, it’s a comfort to know that I have Christ living in me. “Greater is HE that is in me than he that is in the world.” (1st John 4:4b) I thank the Lord every day for this indescribable gift and can’t imagine how I’d survive life without Jesus Christ to depend on.

But you know what cheapens my faith? It’s when I make it about things being easier for myself. It’s when I turn to the Lord as if He’s only a fixer-upper. I’ve done so many times. Sure, He can fix things.  He cares for us and will make everything work out according to His purpose and plans…but He doesn’t want us to miss the greater Truth that lies before, in the midst and beyond our circumstances.

More on that in a minute.

Take a look at the graphic below. If you could custom add a burden or issue or struggle that you need to surrender in obedience to the Lord, what would it be? (You don’t have to answer out loud…just a probe for pondering). What areas do you need the One who lives in you to help you overcome? And are you willing to release it if it means discomfort on your part, even if the Lord leads you to an action or an uncomfortable conversation? If it’s a worry or burden, will you leave it in God’s capable hands?

And the biggest question of all is…why should we do all the above in the first place?

The “why” is because He alone deserves glory. And His unfathomable greatness is revealed when we surrender everything to Him. What does that look like? How do we do it?

By longing to know Him better. We pray and read His Word…not for the purpose of “fixing” our world, but to know the world is firmly fixed in His hands. We learn to trust and obey as we look to our sovereign Lord.

Faith-filled living is not about “how-to,” it’s about “Who-to.” I don’t know about you, but that gives my heart comfort, the true kind. Only God can fix that assurance and confidence in us in such a way that we’re constantly being helped, shaped and changed, bit by bit, for His glory.

He doesn’t promise this life will be easy, no, but His “yoke” is easy, and He’ll help us overcome in faith, because of His grace. He cares and longs to show compassion on us. He is good all the time. It’s beyond my comprehension.

Jude 1:24-25 (NIV)

24 To Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”

Daughter of the Almighty, wife of 20 years, Mama bear and taxi driver to 3 stinkers, mentor, sister, friend, writer, and speaker. I long to be authentic and share the Word of Truth in person and online.

I’ve been writing, leading worship, performing, directing and acting in front of audiences since childhood. Recently, God has called me to use the gifts He’s given me to speak to Christian women. I like to mix my life experiences–the big, the small, the great and the ugly–along with a bit of dramatic humor, in order to show how the Lord has been up close and personal in my life each step of the way.

Whether it’s diapering babies, taxying teens, being a church volunteer, trying to make sense of the marriage thing, or overcoming strongholds and struggles (past or present), I hope to communicate God’s largeness through it all.

Email if you’d like more info on speaking for your moms’ or women’s group.
