Church, oh Church!

Please take a minute and listen. My heart is burdened for the Church this morning. I read two different articles, but was reminded of one sad reality. One article dealt with a pastor who spoke the truth, in love, concerning homosexuality. He called it what it is, sin, and people got up and walked out of his church in the middle of his message. Another article dealt with a major denomination here in America and they opened their General Assembly with a prayer to Allah. Now, the way I write this, people might already think I come across as intolerant. Understand, this isn’t about lifestyle, politics, or any agenda. This is about Christ, His Word, and His Church. He knew there would be a day when His Church would encounter great difficulty. Through the Holy Spirit Paul was inspired to write these words in 1 Timothy 4:1, “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” He’s not talking about the world, he’s talking about the Church, people leaving the faith, people uncomfortable with the Truth of God’s Word and walking out, people uncomfortable with Truth and accepting the faiths of other religions.

Later, Paul wrote to Timothy again and says:

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Read through that list again and tell me it does not describe today’s world. Paul is not saying we do not reach out and minister to those in the world, he’s saying not to associate with the people in the Church who have been infected with these terrible issues. Love the outside world and show them the love of Christ, but put outside of the Church those who claim the Truth, but deny the Power of Christ.

Scripture is clear, in the last days, many will fall away from the Lord. Our only hope is not in politics, it is not in alignment in agendas, it is not in anything except the Truth of God’s Word. We must be students of the Bible and not allow anything else to sway us–anything! Yes, people will think you’re close-minded, people will call you “intolerant”, and you will not get a voice in mainstream media, but your soul will be saved and when Jesus returns you will meet with Him in the air. I’m not suggesting we be selfish, but self-conscious of the state of our soul. We need to be sure we are spiritually healthy or we will do no good for this world or ourselves. Grow in the Word, read it daily, memorize it, love it, and teach it!

In all love I finish with these words, do not fall away, love the Lord, love His Word, and grow!

I really enjoyed reading your article and I must confess that to a larger extent you are right. The church, truly, is becoming antithetical to its basic principles and guidelines. And though many shall fall along the way, we must remain steadfast in the faith.

However, in your article you counselled us to “Love the outside world and show them the love of Christ, but put outside of the Church those who claim the Truth, but deny the Power of Christ.” Now, I have a question that I will like you to answer: what gain or benefit do we derive from putting outside the church those who though claim the Truth but however denied His power? Ain’t we suppose to supplement their weakness with our own strength? Are we not to try and endeavor to save their souls instead of sending them out of Lord’s abode and into the wolves’ den?
