Check Your Belief System

Epic novelist Leo Tolstoy, from considering people’s intricacies and intrigues, described us as “made with a God-shaped vacuum which only God can fill.” Since this vacuum holds our beliefs and values, it’s worth checking them with how God shows His belief in us.

·         God offers us a world of possibilities, and intelligence, imagination and intuition to make them happen.

·         Our freedom to believe or not believe enhances our maturity as we keep acting on our best choices.

·         He shares responsibilities with us to increase our confidence.

·         He is completely honest with us, and He’s patient and forgiving when we get it wrong.

·         He is always available – whatever, wherever or whoever we are.

·         He offers genuine encouragement, rather than flattery or sarcasm.

·         He hears, listens and really cares

·         He shares credit, honour and praise with us when we partner Him in creative, selfless actions.

·         He gets involved in our dreams and disappointments.

·         He freely offers grace, acceptance, forgiveness and a new start to anyone who is looking.

God got the universe started, but He’s also fresher than tomorrow.

God warns us against having no god ahead of Him. Not out of ego, but to save us from the tragic results that come from activating unwise life choices. His love and His belief in our potential prompted Him to show us His true character through Jesus Christ, so He could open the way for us to personally know Him, and so we could share His qualities with the people around us.

On behalf of a church near you,

Inviting you to explore God’s love

Noel Mitaxa is from South Eastern Australia and has been in ministry since 1973, firstly with Churches of Christ – similar to the Disciples in the USA – until 1990, when he moved to a faith-based inter-based inter-church sports ministry of sports evangelism, sports chaplaincy and sports media, before returning to pastoral ministry with Baptist Churches in 1996.

Throughout his ministries, he has always aimed at building the kinds of churches that express God’s love practically, as much as verbally.  Most recently, this included a community centre for woodworking, a community garden and counseling and education programs.

He also enjoys the methanol fix of speedway chaplaincy, in which he has served nine seasons as the Head Rev of all those rev heads!

He and his wife Judy have been married for 35 years; their four kids have grown up and they have three grandchildren.

His writing began in 1982, with his first weekly Good News column, which has always focused on helping unchurched people to realize that God loves them and that He is already there for them.  The column has also been a tool for feeding and starting ‘water cooler’ conversations among Christians and non-Christians.  He also writes for Cypress Times in Houston TX.
