Basketball and God
By Macailyn Maciel-Melendez (Age 9)

Are you worrying about being focused? Just read this!

Well, I’m worrying about my basketball skills and that has everything to do with staying focused. I know that good sportsmanship is a good thing to have with basketball or any sport you play. Just like you should always focus on the ball, you should always keep your eye on God!

Do you have anything that you are having trouble with? That’s why I’m telling you about how I’m having a little trouble with basketball. My temper rises pretty fast if I don’t win my basketball game. I know if I didn’t win it was because I wasn’t focusing on the ball.

So if your temper rises pretty fast or if you’re worrying about school or trouble at home, just be like me and basketball. Stay focused, not on the ball but on God. Learn what God says about what you’re worried about. It really helps. Just like they say “practice makes prefect”.

Anything you’re having trouble with, keep your eye on God. Focus on Him! Remember that!

Macailyn loves to write, to share her thoughts with others, and to express herself with words. She is a charismatic personality that shows through everything she does. At nine years old, she is a basketball star, an excellent cheerleader, loves to bowl and run and play. In other words, she’s full of life.

Macailyn lives at home with her family which includes two dogs: Mack, a 180-lb rotweiller; and Zeus, a 10-lb miniature pincer.

Known as “Caila” (pronounced kay-la), she is a natural leader. She made up her own cheers and taught them to other kids, and is overall creative. She is top in her class and often done with her work very early. Her teacher encourages her to write and has often been amazed at her skillful writing and her ability to express her imagination at her age. Caila is musical; she loves to dance and sing and play the piano.
