Authority vs. Love is Doomed to Fail

It appears at times there is a tension in some circles of the Body between authority and love. Authority is something we have because of our position in Christ, but it was also given to the disciples before He ascended and they were not positioned in Him but were with Him. Authority was delegated as one delegates responsibility. Love, on the other hand, is something we are, because who our Father is…LOVE Himself. Jesus gave authority before He was crucified and resurrected. Now we have far more than authority. We have His very Spirit — Hallelujah! If we are co-joined with Him, making us one…then who we are is Love. distinction, so separation between us and the love of the Father. When we minister from love we are being our authentic selves, when we minister from authority, alone (which often appears to lead to works and duty) we become mechanical; although results are achieved, at what cost to unity with God. The disciples were also impressed with authority and began to brag and bicker about demons bowing and who was greatest but that led to a disconnection with the One, Jesus, who had given them this authority. They came to believe in their authority instead of the one who had bestowed it upon them. Authority will only take us so far. The Spirit will reveal all truth.

When sons of God attempt to analyse and pin down God through human understanding, there will always be a chasm. This chasm is crossed by revelation. Paul received revelation by the Holy Spirit and so did Peter and John , who wrote a book about it! God is unfathomable and although we have the mind of Christ, we still perceive from a limited view (1John 3:2), through a mirror dimly (Romans 13:12). Although our faces  are unveiled and we are being transformed into the same image (of Christ) from glory to glory by the Holy Spirit, we do not have the depth of the riches, both of wisdom and knowledge of God (Romans 11:33). He is still the Daddy/Father, and we are the sons. Sons, interestingly enough, that never leave home, but are always housed by His abiding presence. Majesty is His and He shares His glory with no man…although He will express His glory through us…it is always His glory not ours!

Authority can be likened to fertilizer; it produces effectiveness in one’s prayers, commands, loosings, bindings; but without love there is no soil in which to fertilize the seed (without love we are nothing) 1Cor.13:1-2. Our purpose is not to simply punch the daylights out of the enemy, although an enjoyable activity to a degree…but he being very insidious will even use one’s desire to continually attack him to exhaust and frustrate us. If he can’t stop you, he will tire you out. Love and authority are not mutually exclusive; neither are action and rest………just as waking and sleeping are both necessary.  Love and authority walk in unison…authority is hidden in love unless one extracts it and uses it singularly…….this is like spiritual surgery and will leave a scar. We need not be driven workers, compelled into service, neither are we to withdraw from the world that is crying out in desperation. It is His love, being loved, Beloved…….knowing this simply on an intellectual level will not suffice, but ‘knowing’ experientially (Eph. 3:19) inspires us to righteous action, not driven works.

The enemy is the taskmaster driving us to justify and perform. It is God whose Son poured out each drop of blood for us with the purpose that we would be with Him for eternity (Rev.1:5) THAT WAS THE EXCHANGE. Something we can never earn or work for. Life is in the blood and we now have that life in us through the Holy Spirit.  He is the power of God to do and to will for His good pleasure. He leads, we follow. This has become a blasphemous concept in some circles. Scripture clearly states that He leads us into all truth; all includes healing, miracles, prophesy, signs and wonders and understanding the things of God (1Cor.2:13-14). He, Holy Spirit is not a puppy following us on our self-directed path. If we yield to Him, He will lead us on His directed path…the steps ordered by God. Authority without the Spirit tends to make one believe that we are gods unto ourselves, rather than so much more….One with the God who made us.

Love is the fuel that fills us and authority is the petrol pump (gas pump) that carries the fuel into the tank. It is not helpful to mistake the pump for the fuel, because no matter how long, thick or strong the pump (authority), it will not fill the empty tank; and similarly, the fuel, without  a pump is going nowhere. Authority is a given in the kingdom (although many believers are ignorant of it). It is important to reveal that we are not victims of a capricious God nor an all powerful enemy; authority is established through Jesus Christ, but in and of itself, it is nothing. Let’s just remember it is a small part of what God has done and rejoice that our names are written in the Book of Life in Jesus name.

My love affair with the Lord began on a small island off of Australia. He revealed the depth of His love. Opened my heart to what theCross actually achieved and what He had to pay to accomplish such a final solution. Separating Himself from Himself for me (on the Cross). I fell in love in that instant and I was finished…finished looking for God, finished fighting Him, finished listening to any other possibility. Radically saved, I have never been the same….much like Paul, I was chief of sinners and forgiven much I have only one choice, to love much.

He has taken me all over the world and continues to do so…from Africa to Asia and many as yet, untravelled places. My ministry is all Spirit led, even to the point of giving Him my mouth to use as He sees fit, moment by moment. Whether teaching or preaching, He determines what is said, what is needed by the hearer and what will move their heart, heal their bodies and give them liberty. He has had me write articles, e-journals (on knowing Holy Spirit personally) and present weekly live Skype teachings on the subject of His (Holy Spirit’s) choice. Healing has been another area He has had me focus upon.

My online live and in person healing ministry has produced such amazing miracles, (from malaria to cancer being healed), I sometimes wonder if I was even involved. But that is the greatness of our God. Teaching other believers their birthright in healing has also been a privilege. So whether I am in a Western country or the rural areas of Africa, believers learn about Holy Spirit and is essential role in their lives as a Person, the truth about grace and the Gospel and how to minister healing to their own families and neighbours. It is a full life and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.  Triumph Ministries.
