A Dead Tree

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

John 10:10

One of my palm trees has died.  If you don’t know the story of our palm trees, Bobby and I have 16 Royal Palms lining our driveway.  They started out as 12 inch blades of grass. 12 years later they are 20-30 foot beautiful Royal Palms.  But one has died.  I looked out a few weeks ago and noticed that a top of one tree had come off, and all that was left was the wooden stump.  Bobby had been doing some yard work and I asked him why in the world he had cut off the top of that tree.   He told me he hadn’t, the top fell off; the tree was dead.

I was amazed.  How in the world had one of our trees died?  These trees have been our babies.  We nurtured them when they were tiny and spent hours feeding, watering and replanting them.  Ten years ago, they had found their permanent home along the driveway and they have been thriving since…or so I thought.  But obviously, one of them had a problem.  Something was choking the life out of that tree, and we didn’t discover it, until it was too late.

That dead tree reminded me of myself.  A few years back, I was in the midst of a healthy group of Believers, but my spirit was dying and I had no clue how to help myself.  But thankfully someone noticed that I looked a little pale around the gills and they made a comment, and that comment led to some serious reflection which led to some earnest action being taken towards restoration.  The lies of the enemy were choking the life out of my spirit, but Jesus came in and healed my hurts and my heart.

I wish we had caught the problem with the tree before it became fatal — but I can assure you, I do a heart check now on a daily basis.

Father, thank You that You are the way, the truth and the light and that Your light dispels the darkness.  That You died so that we could have a full life, not only when we get to heaven, but here on earth as well.  Thank You Lord for loving us first.

I Love You Jesus.

In Your Name I Pray,

God Bless You!
