Living A Lie As if It’s Truth

psalm25.5

“A lie believed as the truth will affect your life as if it were true-even though it is a lie.” Scope Ministries

What lies are you believing today? Is it that you will never be good enough? Could it be that you think you will never live down an incident from your past? How about, you think you will never be of any use to God? No matter what false beliefs you are holding on to; they will affect your life as if they were really true. You will act and respond according to these beliefs and your experiences will make you think they are true. For instance, if you believe you could never get a decent paying job, you will never aspire to obtain such a job. Your beliefs will become self-fulfilling prophecies in your life. The Bible says, “for as a man thinks within himself, so he is” (Proverbs 23:7).  We are what we think! If we have been washed in the Blood of the Lamb and have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, there’s no reason to believe things about ourselves that are untrue. God has gifted us with His Word and His Spirit to lead us into all truth (John 16:13).

Romans 12:2 says that we should “not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God—what is good and well-pleasing and perfect.” We can start renewing our minds by asking God to uproot and purge any lies we believe about Him, ourselves, and others. We may not even be aware of the many untruths we hold, but God does and He is more than willing to help us. God’s Word is absolutely necessary in renewing our minds. On the pages of the Bible,  is God’s truth about how we should think and act. Our emotions should never be the basis for how we behave. Emotions are unreliable. They change constantly and we cannot rely on them to tell us the truth about any situation. Don’t mistake your emotions for discernment. Feelings are not reality! The Bible tells us who God is and what He requires of us. It tell us who we are, even when we don’t feel like we should. If we think that God doesn’t love us or has forgotten us, we have to hold on to His Word. God cannot lie, but our beliefs and emotions can. Once God has revealed our faulty beliefs; we must reject them. The Bible says to, “cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). We live in a fallen world and our bodies are vessels of death, they have not yet been transformed. But, we have a Father who loves us dearly and lavished us with many spiritual blessings. We have to trust what His Word says about who we are in Christ. Here’s a few things the Bible says we are,

  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy (1 Peter 2:9-10).
  • For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).
  • There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
  • He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30).
  • For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1).
  • In whom we have boldness and confident access to God because of Christ’s faithfulness (Ephesians 3:12).

These are just a few verses that tell us who we are in Christ and all the Lord has done for us. If you haven’t read God’s Word in a while, take some time out today and listen to Him. God speaks from His Word. He is faithful and Jesus Himself is the way, truth, and life. He died so that we could be reconciled to Himself and know truth. Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. (John 8:31-32)
