Give Yourself the Gift of Freedom!

12 Days of Unwrapping the Gift of You

Day 8: A Holy Union

The scene on the stage was one likely being played out in hundreds of auditoriums. Children dressed in various shades of green and red, angel halos adorned, and proud parents clambering for the perfect photo opportunity. The sounds of “Silent Night” fill the air as a seven year old, pillow-stuffed pregnant, waddles onto the center of the stage. The casual shake of the innkeeper’s head confirms there are no rooms, followed by the frantic arm waving of Joseph in his distress to find a place for Mary. Laughter fills the auditorium over the pint-sized acting, but my heart weighs heavy with the reality of this scene. Even the mother of Jesus had to learn how to trust God in the midst of difficult, trying times. Life with Christ within you does not mean you will not encounter trials, but it does mean you will be empowered to overcome.

What differentiates those who go through the devastations of life mentally intact from those who suffer nervous breakdowns? What mental reserves do these overcomers have that help them surf the tides of their emotions? How do they keep it all together when life throws a stone at their glass house? They don’t. They can no more keep it all together than you or I. But rather than cling to the glass that’s shattering around them, they anchor themselves to a foundation. They stabilize their emotions by attaching the power of their emotions to a higher power. ~Excerpt from Set Free to Live Free: Breaking Through the 7 Lies Women Tell Themselves © Revell

I lift up my eyes to the hills-where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. – Psalm 121:1-2 NIV

There is purpose behind every painful event that has ever happened in your life. A new passion and promise can arise from the ashes of past mistakes. God’s ability and your availability create a holy union capable of not only changing you but the lives of those around you. It’s time to press through the emotions that have held you captive to release the oil of His presence within you. I can already smell the fragrance of freedom in the air.

Today’s Activity: Light a fragrant candle and place it on the table in front of you. Open your bible to Ephesians 1 and read verses 1 – 23 or consider visiting to read it in a new translation for more clarity on the passage. After you finish reading, close your eyes and breathe in deeply the fragrance surrounding you. Sit for a moment and reflect on what you have read.

Daily Prayer: Lord, I desire to be in agreement with what you say about me. I want to see myself as you see me. My emotions do not have the final word over my destiny, only you. I chose to make myself available to you and I trust in your ability to birth in me what I could never do alone. May your promises be manifested in my life according to your Word. Break open the shell of my existence to release the perfume of renewed hope and joy.

Today’s Worship Song: CeCe Winans – Alabaster Box
