12 Days of Unwrapping the Gift of You

Day 7: In Position to Receive

Thirty-eight degrees and ten mile per hour winds make for a chilly night. Wrapped up in coats, scarves, hats and mittens, our family sets out to line the streets in preparation for the annual Christmas parade. Collector’s old cars roll by with smiling passengers waving back, high school bands pierce the night air with the sounds of “Jingle Bells,” dance teams jump and twirl while colorful floats display hours of labor and effort. In the middle of it all, hundreds of little ones dance around the scene looking for one particular float, the one carrying a jolly plump man in a festive red suit. Their excitement is not merely focused on catching a glimpse of Santa, but partaking in the candy and treats his helpers toss out to the crowd. Standing at the edge of the sidewalk pressed up against the demarcation line, my two little guys are in prime position to receive handfuls of goodies.

And let fall some handfuls for her on purpose and let them lie there for her to glean. – Ruth 2:16 AMP

There are times in our lives when God wants to bless us, but we fail to position ourselves to receive. I know you may have read this story many times, but before we proceed any further, spend a few minutes reading Ruth 2: 1-23. Isn’t it interesting that Ruth chose Boaz’s field to glean? I call those God moments. They are those times in our lives when God opens the door to an opportunity we did not expect. They are times of favor and blessings which arise out of our closeness to God. Undeserved handfuls of grace deposited into our everyday lives as we glean from our time in His presence. It all begins with being in the right position.

When you believe God wants you to freely enjoy your life and you have renewed your vision, it is time to receive what you see. Receiving requires open hands. When your hands are open, it is very difficult to hold onto anything. Rather than things staying stagnant within your grasp they flow through you and around you. You become able to move, unrestrained by things and circumstances. Possessions lose their power because you have the freedom to let go without feeling loss. Your trust in the one orchestrating the flow of events around you overcomes the fear of loss. You are able to build healthy relationships because you are open to embrace, and your movement liberates others to grow and develop without fear of abandonment. You can exchange blessings that seem so good you want to cling to them forever for ones you cannot even imagine.  ~Excerpt from Set Free to Live Free: Breaking Through the 7 Lies Women Tell Themselves © Revell

Today’s Activity: Find a comfortable place in your home where you can visually enjoy the Christmas decorations you have on display. Spend a moment in a posture of thanksgiving. Thank God for the handfuls He has left on purpose for you. Now open your hands in front of you with your palms up and release in prayer any areas/people/dreams/ambitions you have been clinging to; then remain open to receive the guidance of His spirit on how to position yourself for His best.

Daily Prayer: Lord, forgive me for every time I’ve neglected to thank you for the many blessings in my life. Your grace knows no limits and you have extended it to me without limits. With open hands I come to you. Help me to hold loosely to your blessings and to cleave only to you.  I want you more than I want them. In your presence I find all I need to embrace today. May my heart forever remain in a position of loving surrender before you.
