Day 1: All the Pretty Packages

Looking at the names of all the women signed up for this devotional series, I am reminded of the image of past childhood Christmases. Awaking from a fitful night of attempted sleep overwhelmed with the joy of unlimited possibility that waits. All the pretty packages sitting around the Christmas tree filled with promise. Each unique in its design and purpose. Each magnifying the love and careful consideration of the Gift Giver.  Each awaiting its appointed time to be unwrapped. The light from the tree illuminating every beautiful package. From the window, the rising sun shines through to declare the time of discovery has arrived.

Arise, shine; for your light has come, And the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. – Isaiah 60:1 NAS

For too long God’s girls have sat under the dim light of a system that strives to make you feel inferior. This Christmas God is shining down the light of His Son Jesus to reveal to you the gift that you are. You are the gift He desires to share with a hurting world. Your story, your testimony, your successes, your weaknesses, your strengths and your failures are all part of His plan. Unfortunately faulty belief systems may have wrapped around your life and tied it all up in a ribbon of fear, leaving your passion and purpose hidden from even yourself. But thankfully, God has his hands on the ribbon and is ready to set you free to discover who you are in Christ.

You are a complex individual knitted together piece by piece by a loving God. He created you with your own unique talents, likes, and desires. He knows you better than you know yourself. He sees you as He created you, not as you or others have defined you. You are an exclusive, one-of-a-kind treasure that has yet to be fully explored. You are too unique to compare to any other. How can you compare the incomparable? No one has your distinct personal characteristics. No one has your exact personality. No one has your precise set of experiences. You are an authentic heavenly masterpiece worthy of inspiring thanks to God.  ~Excerpt from Set Free to Live Free: Breaking Through the 7 Lies Women Tell Themselves © Revell 2011

Today’s Activity: Turn on your Christmas tree lights and turn off all other lights in the room. Sit and pray under your Christmas tree today. You may even want to lie down and gaze up at the lights. Spend some time there in quiet reflection. Ask God to unwrap you this Christmas and listen for the gentle whisper of His reply.

Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. – Mark 10:14 NLT

Just like a child on Christmas, enter this 12 day journey with eager expectation. Become reacquainted with the ability to hope without limits, expect without restrictions, and dream without fear. Rediscover the innocence of trust and the boldness of relationship. Each day set aside a specific time to read the devotional, participate in the daily activity, worship and pray. Make time to spend with God. Your allocated time may be five minutes or one hour; it is totally up to you. “Me” time is never a waste of time. This is your gift to yourself, a needed break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, baking, and entertaining. This is also your gift to God. You are the gift He most wants to receive.

Daily Prayer: Lord, I place myself under the light of your Son. Holy Spirit illuminate me. Show me during these next 12 days every faulty belief system that has wrapped itself around my mind. God, move within my heart to pull off the layers of lies and release me from the limitations of my fears. I commit myself to walking through all 12 days of this journey as a tangible love offering to you. Daily I will bring to you all that I am and all that I am not. God, this Christmas I give you me.
